DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER 

 

 

A. DEPARTMENT

As EMEA Development Centre (EDC), we develop air-conditioning, heating, refrigeration and ventilation products as well as controls and IOT solutions. These are produced in different factories located within and outside Europe. The products are put on the market through our various Daikin distributors and affiliates within Europe, Middle East and Africa. 

The EMEA development centre headquarter is located in Ostend and Ghent. The vacant position is located in Ghent office and travel to Ostend office is expected when collaborating with the team in Ostend

 

 

B. ROLE

  • As a Structural Development Engineer within our EMEA Development Centre, you will be involved in the various aspects of the structural development of heat pumps, refrigeration systems, commercial air conditioning and ventilation products. 

  • In collaboration with a specialised designer team, you will design and validate the full unit assembly; this contains selection of refrigerant components (filters/piping/compressors/…) , judging component assembly and optimising the topology in a casing. You will also take into account the quality (resistance, strength, sound, vibration…), legal compliance, cost, manufacturability, sales and timing requirements. 

 

Because of your various technical interests, you could be involved in and/or take the lead on all parts of the development, with the focus on structural engineering.  
 

  • Core tasks in these developments include:

  • Define the mechanical specifications of the products in accordance with sales request, relevant regulations, quality standards and manufacturing constraints.

  • Development of the mechanical design (part selection, assembly) in order to reach the required product specifications in collaboration with a team of specialized 3D designers.

  • Ensure the products meet all legal/internal requirements, verify by documentation, calculation or testing and align with Compliance department.

  • Determine which tests and evaluations the products must undergo and analyse the test results. 

  • Determine and execute relevant structural simulations to frontload or solve issues linked to the testing of the unit.

  • Determine your own work-plan autonomously while taking the global planning within and outside EDC into account.

  • Discuss your interim results with the management, make diagnoses and ensure the setting up and implementation of action plans to identify and avoid bottlenecks.

  • Equally important is your role as contact person between EDC and other departments such as Sales, Procurement, Quality and Production, whereby you will acquire a good insight to the whole Daikin production process. 

 

 

C. PROFILE

  • You have a Master’s degree in engineering, for example in mechanical engineering, electromechanics or similar. 

  • You combine technical expertise with initiative. You’re eager to contribute to product development and take ownership of your work. 

  • You work well in a team and enjoy solving complex challenges. You’re motivated by technical requirements and customer-specific needs. 

  • You have a genuine interest in HVACR technologies and are committed to contributing to sustainability goals, including the Green Deal. 

  • You’re organized and proactive. You manage your time effectively, set priorities, and deliver on deadlines. 

  • You communicate clearly in English, both spoken and written, in a professional and international context. 

  • This vacancy is open to both recent graduates and candidates with experience. 

  • A driver’s license is recommended, as collaboration between our Ghent and Ostend teams may require travel.
