DEPARTMENT

The EMEA Patents & compliance department is part of Daikin's EMEA Development Center (EDC). The headquarter of this R&D centre is located in Belgium (Ghent).

EDC’s mission is the development of Heating, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration products and related Control Systems for EMEA market.

The responsibility of the EMEA compliance team is to provide the necessary support to our R&D departments to ensure regulatory product compliance for EDC developed products, ranging from product safety (electrical, mechanical etc) to environmental (chemical restrictions, waste, f-gases, sustainability etc), efficiency (eco-design), data protection (cybersecurity, GDPR etc) legal product requirements. The headquarter for EMEA compliance is located in Belgium (Ghent) but there is a close collaboration with our compliance colleagues in the other development centres (Germany, Turkey, Czech Republic and Italy).

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work (pro-actively) with the colleagues in the compliance team and other Daikin departments (development engineers, sales, manufacturing etc) throughout the product development process to ensure that parts and products are compliant with product regulations and requirements
  • Monitor, capture, analyse product regulations & technical standards and prepare the impact assessment
  • Provide the necessary instructions & guidance to the development teams for design changes or new product developments resulting from regulatory changes
  • Maintain and systematically review internal compliance documentation, processes, procedures, testing methods, certifications to ensure common (best) practices

In order to prepare for the relevant EU green deal product regulations & technical standards  (ESPR, CRM, DPP, material efficiency standards etc) and the company’s sustainability goals, we want

  • to establish processes & tools to evaluate and further improve the environmental impact of the products developed in EDC (e.g. LCA, establish design criteria, lead pilot projects etc)
  • actively collaborate with the development teams to evaluate the current products and set targets for improvements
  • to increase the knowledge of the development team about environmental sustainability by active coaching and training
  • to establish cooperations with external partners for specific projects & investigations
  • to establish the next 5-year plan and strategy aiming to be ahead of legal compliance

 

PROFILE

  • You have a Master of Science in Sustainable Development or equivalent
  • You have experience in environmental product compliance, especially in sustainable/circular product development
  • You have experience in – or a strong affinity with - an engineering environment.
  • You are analytical, while keeping a view on the bigger picture. You are able to find simplicity in complexity and you can effectively report on it both to peers and management
  • You enjoy working within an international team and enjoy coaching your colleagues about environmental sustainability tools & processes
  • You are motivated to help establish the 5 year strategy and roadmap for the development team, amongst others by implementing sustainability & circularity tools, check-points & KPI s for new developments
  • You are able to analyse upcoming regulations & standards and pro-actively prepare for the impact on our products (like DPP, material efficiency standards etc)
  • You are convinced that clear communication and written processes are vital
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills in English. Knowledge of another European language is an asset.
