Group Tax Advisor - VAT specialist

Daikin Europe NV (DENV) is a subsidiary of Daikin Industries Limited, a Japanese outstanding company and worldwide the biggest developer, producer and supplier of HVAC-R (heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration) solutions, including heating pumps and cooling technology.

DENV is Daikin’s sales, R&D, and production headquarters for Europe, the Middle-East and Africa. The headquarter has Belgian offices in Brussels, Ghent and Ostend, as well as 8 production plants, 24 sales subsidiaries and offices and a whole network of independent distributors and dealers across the EMEA region.

Daikin Europe NV is the Head Office for the Daikin Group in EMEA. The finance and accounting team, part of the Coordination Center, is located in Oostkamp and we are currently looking for a strong candidate taking up a position as Group Tax advisor with a focus on VAT.

Responsibilities

In this position, you will become part of a professional and driven tax team within a multinational entity committed to a sustainable future. The central tax team coordinates all tax operations for the group, together with the local accounting teams and our shared service center in Poland. With +/- 60 affiliates mainly in EMEA, we are looking to enforce our tax team with a motivated experienced person.

Your main focus will be VAT and you will have to opportunity to extend your knowledge to the other areas of tax to become an all-round tax professional.  

Your role

Daikin Europe group has about many complex chain transactions across Europe. As a head quarter function, we expect you to monitor the VAT in our purchase and sales flows and advise the business in this respect. Daikin Europe is also has an active acquisition policy which means that new flows need to be analysed and new VAT-numbers sometimes need to be applied for. Working on SAP you will also implement these new VAT-numbers and -flows in our ERP system. This needs to be combined with the recurring tax obligations where we strive for continuous improvements and efficiency. The recurring compliance is mainly executed by our shared service center. In your role as a VAT specialist:

• You will provide VAT advice to the business, analyze new flows and highlight points of attention.
• You will contribute to projects and interact with different stakeholders.
• You will follow-up individual country regulations and changes in legislation, both in indirect as direct tax matters and assist local accounting people with the correct set-up of new obligations.
• You will coordinate the changes that impact various group companies to come to a harmonized solution that fits all needs.
• You will maintain and ensure a correct VAT set-up in our SAP-system and our VAT reporting tool. SAP-knowledge will be trained on the job.
• You will be part of the tax team in Daikin Europe which generally covers not only VAT but also Corporate Income Tax and Transfer pricing. You will be trained to assist in other tax activities and be a back-up for other tax procedures.

Your profile

You have:

• a Master’s degree in economics, economic sciences, law and/or taxation

• +/- 5 years of professional tax experience in an international context

• knowledge of SAP and the VAT parameters

• good working knowledge of VAT rules and legislation within the EU

• You can work independently within strict deadlines with a hands-on mentality and you are comfortable in balancing multiple projects at the same time
• You have attention to detail and take ownership in your job
• You are a team player
• You are eager to extend your tax knowledge to other area’s than VAT
• You have excellent oral and written English skills
